Ubiquitous: Universal Stereotypes

The world is run by single minded, ignorant, egotistic people. These men have taken part in creating a new religion called “stereotypism”. The belief and generalization of people that we all find offensive. I myself am an Asian and sometime I’m really sick of people taking me in with what they believe is the “general” way of living for Asians. I mean yes in many ways I understand that I myself have stereotypes as well (I’m trying really hard to fix it), and I also know that these stereotypes are formed from daily life. Now what? Daily life? To me it seems as if we’re cramming into ourselves more of what we generalize in other people. How would a new born baby or a young child know a stereotype without learning that Asian people always have calculators in their hand ready to do math.

I came across a blog by Josh Breslow and his blog, the Crushing Stereotypes. I found it interesting and in many ways connective with what I thought about myself and stereotypes. When I read a post from his blog, which was titled A Stereotype Fiesta, I found it quite agreeable that the stereotypes that people have on others don’t fit all of them.

Just because it’s widely-accepted that black people love their fried chicken and watermelon, doesn’t mean it’s always true. I’m sure there are some black men and women who do not love fried chicken.
Ask any black vegetarian!

We need to learn how to respect what people have inside of them and in many ways try to be in their shoes. I mean yes in many ways we have learned that people have different skin color, but we are all just the same humans after all aren’t we? We can’t take every Asian to be studious, and every African American to be athletic, and many other kinds of stereotypes. So what stops us from seeing people as more of whom they are individually rather a generalized group? To me it seems as if we are prevented from thinking this way, because of what we’ve learned so far and how we have been taught in many ways how to see things. What do I mean? Well that is something……To be continued……
